Spring Board Seeking New Members

Aspen, Colo., February 10, 2010 – Spring Board is seeking new board members who will work towards the group’s goal of increasing young people's involvement in the Roaring Fork community.

Membership on the board is open to self-motivated individuals between the ages of 21 and 35, residing anywhere from Aspen to Glenwood Springs, Colo.

Spring Board recommends grants to Roaring Fork Valley non-profit organizations through the Spring Board Advised Fund of Aspen Community Foundation.  Spring Board's mission is to engage the young generation in the Roaring Fork Valley and empower them to invest in their community through charitable giving and volunteerism.

Board members are required to serve a two-year term that will begin in April 2010.  Those interested in interviewing for a seat on the Spring Board, should e-mail a biographical sketch and/or resume, letter of interest, and two letters of recommendations (please limit each item to one page) to alison.n.friedman@gmail.com.  The deadline for applications for March interviews is Monday, March 8th.  The interview date TBA.  Applications received after that time will be considered for any board openings after April 2010.

Members gain the valuable experience of serving on a board, learn leadership skills, participate in grantmaking and fundraising activities, and help motivate their peers to get involved too.  The Board meets on a monthly basis.  Additional time is needed in the spring and fall during the grantmaking and fundraising cycles and Board members pay annual dues of $120.

Aspen Community Foundation created Spring Board in 1997, believing that "communities benefit from the creativity, energy and intelligence of younger generations."  In 2005, it became an advised fund, with $50,000 to start from the foundation.  Now Spring Board raises its own grant money and has granted over $430,000 to 60 different organizations since its inception.  Nearly 70 young adults have been members of Spring Board, many of whom continue to be active leaders in their communities.
