Plus, new Members Announced for 2010

Aspen, Colo., April 1, 2010 – Spring Board’s annual BBQ benefit, Spring Fling, will take place on Aspen Mountain’s closing day, Sunday, April 11 at the Buckhorn Cabin from 12:00 – 3:30 p.m.  This year’s theme is 80’s Neon, right in line with traditional Closing Day attire.

“There’s no better way to celebrate Closing Day on Aspen Mountain,” says newly appointed chair Alison Friedman.  "Come by and enjoy the party while giving back to the youth of the Roaring Fork Valley."

Spring Board members will be serving up a BBQ lunch and will be pouring beer throughout the afternoon.  There is a suggested $10 donation and the event is open to the public.

Spring Board recently brought on ten new members including:  Charissa Avery, Ashley Cantrell, Eric Chase, Anne Fitzpatrick, Beth Hansen, Samantha Hoffmann, Logan Hood, Michelle Muething, Terry Rigney and Erik Wardell.

Members continuing on with the Board include:  Marta Darby, Alison Friedman, Laura Makar, Laura Merino, Ryan Miller, Sally Spaulding and Ellen Winter.

Spring Fling is a great time to meet the new members of Spring Board and say goodbye to the members rolling off of the Board, which include Kaitlyn Archambault, Jamie Bethell, Lindsay Forbes, Patrick Kelly, Meredith McKee, Spencer McKnight, Kathy Yang and Mike Yang.

Buckhorn Cabin is located on the skier’s left-hand side of Buckhorn Run on the Westside of Aspen Mountain.

Spring Board recommends grants to Roaring Fork Valley non-profit organizations through the Spring Board Advised Fund of Aspen Community Foundation.  Spring Board's mission is to engage the young generation in the Roaring Fork Valley and empower them to invest in their community through charitable giving and volunteerism.

Aspen Community Foundation created Spring Board in 1997, believing that "communities benefit from the creativity, energy and intelligence of younger generations."  In 2005, it became an advised fund, with $50,000 to start from the foundation.  Now Spring Board raises its own grant money and has granted over $430,000 to 60 different organizations since its inception.  Nearly 70 young adults have been members of Spring Board, many of whom continue to be active leaders in their communities.
